RE: GM's Lutz: 80% of vehicles must be hybrid by 2020

I don't drive enough miles to get back the extra money it cost for the new hybrid and diesel vehicles. I put more miles on my mountain bike than I do on my Scion xB or Chevy van in local travel and my Kawasaki ZX-11 gets better mpg than my Scion xB.

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

As the sulfur content of diesel fuel goes down, it`s costing more money to buy some. Diesel fuel prices are above four dollars a gallon in North Dakota. They`re much higher than gasoline prices, and it used to be the other way around. North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources director Lynn Helms says new federal low-sulfur standards for diesel fuel that`s used in over-the-road vehicles have caused the prices to rise. Refineries needed to install new equipment, and more oil is needed to produce a gallon of low-sulfur fuel. Helms says there`s also the Europe factor. He says there`s heavy demand for diesel fuel there because many more road vehicles use it -- and there`s an oversupply of gasoline. KFYR-TV

RE: WAKE UP GM!!! - Full Size Van Towing

Just pump up the rear tires to 65-70lbs and off you go Why would you only put 65-70 lbs in the rear tires when towing a loaded TT when the 3500 Express van door sticker says 80psi ?

RE: Another capacity question

So am I asking way too much for my truck? I camp in rockies and to go anywhere I have to use a hiway with considerable grades over a long distance and I dont have the cash for a new hauler as this isnt my daily driver and it was between a new trailer now or used truck/trailer. I plan to upgrade to a suburban or pickup in the future but I need to make due with what I have for now. Save your money, it's going to be sooner than later for Suburban or pickup.

RE: Tires & RPM's

Tires vary in rev's per mile, even though they might have the same OD. I think that is because they round off to tenths of an inch and another brand might be a little taller but not a full tenth. My vans LT265/75R16E Yokohama Geolandar H/T-S G053's specs are 31.7" diameter and 656 revs per mile vs my old Excursions LT265/75R16E BFG Rugged Trail T/A's specs of 31.7" but 661 revs per mile meaning they are shorter than the Yokohama Geolandar H/T-S G053 LT265/75R16E's.

RE: oil changing

The 6.0 PSD is very easy to change since the oil filter is on top of the engine next to the fuel filter so all you have to do is drain the pan from under the truck.

RE: Pacific Ethanol reported heavy losses

Ethanol doesn't burn cleaner than gasoline, nor is it cheaper. Our current ethanol production represents only 3.5 percent of our gasoline consumption -- yet it consumes twenty percent of the entire U.S. corn crop, causing the price of corn to double in the last two years and raising the threat of hunger in the Third World. RE: Apple Computer help needed: need to remove data

I just bought a MacBook last week and need to return it for a manufacturers defect. In talking to the retailer it sounds as if they are going to just replace it (I may go back to a PC.) I know very little about Apple and Mac products. Go back to a PC and save money. I will be getting a 17" laptop with Core 2 Duo, 320GB HD and Vista Premium w/ Media Center to watch and record HD programs for under $1,000. A Mac 17" laptop cost $2,800 without a Media Center like program.

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

Remember when buying and operating a diesel-engine vehicle was a good way to save fuel costs? Not anymore. In fact, operating a diesel-engine vehicle of any kind is more expensive then an engine using regular gasoline. Case in point, a listener pointed out that the price of diesel at XtraMart in North Adams on Monday was a whopping $4.26; it's $4.21 in Great Barrington and Pittsfield. Besides private diesel-powered vehicles, think of how many larger trucks, tractor-trailers, school buses and even locomotive engines are powered with diesel fuel. Compared to previous months, the federal Energy Information Administration shows the price of diesel spiking sharply higher since February and more than double what it was last year. The average price of diesel fuel was usually lower than gasoline until a few years ago, when worldwide demand began rising. In the United States, the transition to low-sulfur diesel fuel has affected production and distribution costs and federal excise tax on diesel fuel is 6 cents higher per gallon than the tax on gasoline. According to an Associated Press report, the American Trucking Association is calling it a "crisis situation" and is asking Congress and the Bush administration to increase the availability of diesel fuel any way possible. The trucking industry is expecting to spend $135 billion in fuel costs this year, compared to $112.6 billion last year. No wonder the cost of transportation and goods and services that use diesel-fuel vehicles are going sky high. Up, Up and Away
